Location

The Dahme-Spreewald district, occupying an area of 2,261 sq km, starts at the south-eastern boundary of the city of Berlin and extends well into the Spree Forest and the foothills of the lower Fläming range. It borders on the German capital Berlin as well as on the districts of Teltow-Fläming, Oder-Spree, Elbe-Elster, Spree-Neiße und Oberspreewald Lausitz. Its boundary measures 386 km in length. Its population of currently 160,000 inhabitants lives in nine municipalities, four departments and four towns. The district capital, with the district council and government, is the Spree Forest town of Lübben.
